BUNNY RESCUE – When the Secaucus Fire Department responded to a brush fire near the Turnpike on Friday, April 17 at about 3:30 p.m., a few adult rabbits were spotted by troopers running from the area. After firefighters stretched their hose lines to extinguish the fire they noticed two baby bunnies still in a nest on the ground. The fire had passed over them without causing serious harm. Because veterinarians are not allowed by law to take wild animals, Shannon Wisener of Secaucus Animal Control and Kevin O’Conner of the DPW were instrumental in getting the baby bunnies to a specialist who accepts these types of animals. The bunnies are healthy and have an 80 percent chance of survival.
