UNION CITY -- The City of Union City, Mayor Brian Stack and Board of Commissioners will be holding a Unveiling Ceremony of the Caroline Goodman Memorial Plaque on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 12 p.m. on the corner of West Street and Eighth Street. A city spokesman said in a release, “Goodman was a crossing guard at that location for 26 years and eight months. She was very dedicated to the safety of the children in the area, and was loved by all who came in contact with her. Members of the family will be present at the ceremony.”

HOBOKEN – Earlier this week, FEMA released its revised flood maps for New Jersey (see earlier story linked below). Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer said in a statement: "While I appreciate FEMA’s willingness to incorporate our feedback and make incremental improvements to these maps, FEMA's new flood area designations ultimately mean more of our residents will need to participate in the unfair National Flood Insurance Program, which ignores the needs of urban areas like ours. I have met with officials at the National Flood Insurance Program and been advised that if we can demonstrate that we are protecting our city, then we could get a “Shaded X” designation for Hoboken, which would enable us to get out of paying for flood insurance. That is why I am continuing to work towards a comprehensive solution to our flooding problem so that we can protect our city, change our city’s flood designation, and potentially completely free ourselves from the National Flood Insurance Program."
