NORTH BERGEN AND BEYOND – According to the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission, the North Bergen Democratic Municipal Committee raised the highest campaign donations in the state during 2009 at $668,830.

Union City First received second place at $365,912 while the West New York Democratic County Committee raised $167,355, putting them in fourth place.

Executive Director Jeffrey Brindle said that nearly $4 million in donations were raised by municipal political party committees in 2009.

He also said that the ELEC’s larger searchable database of almost $40 million donations would now include municipal political party contributions, which can be found through an online access search at www.elec.state.nj.us/publicinformation/searchdatabase.htm.

“New Jersey is now one of the few states in the nation to provide online access to municipal donations,” said Brindle.– Tricia Tirella

One Square Mile!!!! How many square miles is Manhattan. This does not matter. Hoboken is an ongoing redevelopment experiment, with restaurants, bars, parks and safety. It is courting business and entertainment. There are even advertisements on the Path. Sorry a cop gave you a sense of entitlement. Their not all that way

One teacher at a time - that's the way we do it in our classrooms!!! Ultimately, none of the chaos surrounding this so-called education reform can take away our abilities to give our students a REAL, EQUITABLE, MEANINGFUL, EFFECTIVE education. Walk in - shut the door - teach, love, learn!!!!

Thanks Jessee for reminding us all of our responsbility to the kids. Louisiana Lee
Tropical Storm Watch on Hurricane Earl still in effect

HUDSON COUNTY – The New York metropolitan area remains under a Tropical Storm Watch as Hurricane Earl barrels northwest through the Atlantic, expected to pass 150 miles southeast of Long Island on Friday evening, according to various sources.

Although the storm is not expected to hit the area, forecasters warn that decisions about outdoor activity should consider that its effects can be felt even several hundred miles from the storm’s center. They caution that local residents should stay tuned to weather forecasts because the probable track of the storm is only a prediction and could change. As of this morning the National Weather Service estimated a 41 percent chance of “tropical storm conditions,” which means heavy rain and possible sustained winds of from 34 to 73 mph.

Friday’s local forecast is for a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 a.m., and mostly cloudy, with a high near 83 and winds from the east between 5 and 14 mph. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch are expected, mainly between 9 a.m. and 12 midnight, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Keep up to date on Hurricane Earl by returning to our updates on Hudson Reporter.com.
