UNION CITY AND BEYOND -- FBI agents were present at City Hall in Union City this morning, according to Barbara Woodrow, the public affairs agent at the FBI’s local office in Newark. Woodrow could not confirm why the agents were there, but did say that it was regarding official business.

Mark Albiez, Union City Mayor Brian P. Stack’s chief of staff, told NJ.com that City Hall is “fully cooperating with the investigation.” A source inside City Hall confirmed that the agents had shut down the fourth floor and were inside the Community Development Block Grant office, which handles federal grants issued to community organizations, and the City Comptroller’s office.

It is unclear why they were in these offices specifically, but the activities resemble events which occurred in Bayonne at least twice in the last month, where investigators were allegedly reviewing the contents of one computer.
