More 'midnight flyers' appear on cars in Hoboken

HOBOKEN -- Another set of anonymous "midnight flyers" has graced car windshields in Hoboken, and this time they're related to the upcoming November school board election.

Midnight flyers are unsigned campaign materials that are left on cars or slipped under doors overnight, often to prevent scrutiny and often just before an election. New Jersey election law says that campaign advertisements must say on the materials who paid for them, and these did not.

Often in Hoboken, the flyers try to scare people into believing they'll lose their apartments if a certain candidate is elected. Yet, these were different.

This morning, the photocopied flyers were found under the windshield wipers of parked cars. The flyers take aim at the "Kids First" school board slate that is allied with Mayor Dawn Zimmer in the upcoming election for three seats on the nine-member board.

The flyers specifically depict a local blogger whom they say is associated with that slate. The slate opposing Kids First is "Move Forward." Move Forward campaign co-chairman John Castellano said Thursday morning that his slate is not behind the illicit flyers.

He said several people had sent him photos from their cell phones.

“I’ve only seen a snapshot of the flier," he said. "I have not seen the whole thing. My candidates are not behind them and in my personal opinion I don’t find [fliers] to be an effective way to campaign. I don’t feel they sway or turn on voters and we will not be using them.”

This is the second time in recent weeks that "mindight flyers" were used to make a political point. See our previous story here.

How much money are the Mason's pummping into their slate of candidates for Hoboken BOE ?

According to ELECT reports filed on 10/11 by Russo cousin and campaign manager Castellano $7,000.00 and growing.

Those weekly half page ads in the Hoboken Reporter are expensive and the total dollar figures could increase exponetially by election day.

Can the Mason's money buy them the results they want in this election like it did when they dumped tens of thousands of dollars to put Occhipinti on the City Council ?

Apparently even the minimal press coverage the Hoboken Reporter has given these midnight political attack flyers has generated a much larger and opposite effect hoped for by it's publishers.

Have to give my *opinion* here for what it is worth. This is my first time commenting.

Old Guard attacks people through anonymous fliers. Zimmer supporters attack by posting slander anonymously on the internet that will stay there to hurt people and their children for eternity.

Sure corruption is much worse than slander but most of us would like to have neither.

GA posts photos of herself & her kid on her website for sympathy.. From what I read she has no problem with the attacks on other's families and comments that their children should be investigated by the state.

Corrupton comes in many forms, and moral corruption is nothing to sneezer. It is almost worse when you hold yourself out there as better and then can't controlyour impulse to dive into the same dirty waters.

Just my opinion, you'll notice I presented no slander or lies here. I have spoken to many others who feel the same. In a town of 50,000 there are more than a few who feel this way but you can lie and pretend it's only 3 of us if it justifies your unctuous behavior. The silent majority is just that, I probably shouldn't bother but I think it might be nice if we had a blogger who fights for reform who we could support instead of holding our noses as we read their oily prose. Anyone want to step in and do better?

My "opinion" you are either uniformed, blind to the truth or trying to draw paralles to excuse those who produce the midnight flyers.

Many of the Old Guard politicos try to excuse their bad behaviour by trying to draw untrue equivalencies.

Apparently you stopped reading before you got to the little pig graphics. Those are FACTS from the BOE audit, not libel.

http://grafixavenger.blogspot.com/2012/10/political-attack-on-hoboken-mom.html

Where else have you read ANY of that?

Want to step in and do better? You think control over that $63million BOE budget isn't at the heart of this latest failed "My only selling point is that I hate GA" campaign?

You guys always make the same mistake. You want to seem like you recognize that the old guard is corrupt. But ONLY for the sake of your "credibility." Your real subject always turns out to be bloggers and some bizarre equivocation between criminal behavior and blogging.

To mention people who commit actual crimes, buy elections, pay voters, steal from the city, steal from the kids - just in passing, and then spend all your time whining about a blogger.... It's a giant red flag.

Get a new name. This one is already used up.

It is widely known that Cake Boss wrote the flier and did not sign it to avoid a defamation suit and other charges. It's difficult to tell what he hates more - women or the truth.

Read for yourself and decide.

http://grafixavenger.blogspot.com/2012/10/move-forward-attack-flyer-hoboken411.html

That’s the funny thing about Move Forward and Beth Mason. They want to use GA for their propaganda but they know it will all blow up if you read her site for yourself and think for yourself so they never mention the website or give links.

Special thanks to Move Forward flier author Cake Boss for confirming the coordination with 411. Like you couldn't guess that.

You can see everyone from Kids First in the 100s of pictures of PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS personally and with their wallets.

You will not find a single picture of anyone from Cake Boss's Move Forward ticket.

Illegal attack fliers coordinated with Hoboken411, yes.

Actual support for the schools, no.

All you need to know about Move Forward.

Did the flyers come from Beth Mason ?

Apparently at least one person is saying they saw stacks the offensive flyer in Mason's 12th Street HQ.

The post today on pro-Mason blog Hoboken411 only adds credibility to the claims.

Slapping myself silly with laughter after your accusations. Didn't write anything but found Pincus and SmartyJones to be amusing with their rants. That half-wit Westy linked to both of them, who have images of the flyer up!

If Pincus can't take the heat she shouldn't surround herself with fire in her self portrait on her blog. She is good with Photoshop though. She looks a lot better on her blog than she did in the flyer. Maybe it's Maybellean?

As many people believe you are "laughing yourself silly" as believe you didn't write the flier: none.

Talking about a person's looks just reveals the sleazy underside to this campaign of yours. It's not about the high-minded ideals you pretend but your personal animosity toward Pincus.

All we have to do is let you open your incredibly dumb mouth and the truth comes tumbling out like so much half-chewed fat.

You screwed up. Now you screwed up again. You'll keep screwing up because you can't help yourself. You want to know what makes the rest of the world laugh themselves silly? When someone who has sunk to insulting the looks of his enemies says other people behave stupidly on the internet and will have to pay $2 million for it. Way to "move forward,” neanderthal. Careful, your knuckles are dragging on the ground.

You better check to see if Elizabeth Markevitch and Felice Vazquez want any more of your “help”. They may not be comfortable with your documented hatred for women.

You coordinated with Hoboken 411. What else is new?

That's a picture of Pincus supporting her kid's school at a fund raiser. Klaussen edited out the photographer's watermark. No wonder you two get along so well. Same ethics. Same problem with women.

The desire to fight the lawsuit out in the media tells everyone all they need to know about its prospects in court.

Only in the twisted world of Nancy Pincus does she attack people on a daily basis, get sued for it, claim there are no limits because the first amendment applies to all, and then wants to whine when called on her conduct.

Pincus is awfully chummy with Kids First. How does it make her feel that not even her friends will admit to knowing her these days?

Her life has come full circle. Go coordinate with Smarty, Pincus and the rest of the crew. You all deserve each other. When KF loses it will all be laid at Pincus' door since she has no sense of how to behave. Done with you Toast. Your message is burnt.

Too complicated for you?

What you did with your flier is a crime. What Pincus does on her blog is protected by the 1st Amendment.

What part don't you get?

Make sure you check in with Elizabeth Markevitch and Felice Vasquez to see if they want any additional "help" from you and your fellow established woman hater at Hoboken 411.

It's all going down in flames. The humiliation will be exquisite for all of you.

Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Time is running out.

If you thought YOUR flier was legal, you would have signed your name and the name of Move Forward to it and handed it out in the day time. But you and Move Forward know YOUR flier isn't legal snuck around at night delivering it like the cowards you are.

Tick-tock, Tick-tock. Time is running out. No one knows that better than you.

I hear there may be a website in honor of the real story of the Bajardis. Tick-tock, Tick-tock.

Dear Editor:

We would like to thank everyone in the community who came forwarded and voted for the Kids First team in the recent Board of Education election on April 20th. We would also like to thank the many friends, neighbors, family members and sometimes total strangers who worked so hard for something they believed in…..the importance of the education of the children of Hoboken.

At the risk of leaving someone out, we would like to offer a few specific thank you's. A huge thanks to our hard working campaign manager Liz Mulholland who kept everything moving, our treasurer Bill Tobias, our graphic designer Nancy Pincus, Deirdre Wall for our letter writing campaign, Greg Bond for his work on our website, Francis Jennings for coordinating our events, Mac Hartshorn for his amazing photography and to all those who generously opened their house and wallets to us once again. A big, sweeping thanks to everyone who told a friend, handed out materials and introduced us to their neighbors! Thank you also to our husbands, wives and children for their unwavering support and keeping the home fires burning while we attended the many after hour meetings, events and forums.

We would also like to thank Mayor Dawn Zimmer and Councilpersons Marsh, Bhalla, Mello, Lenz and Cunningham for their support of us as candidates and their belief in our ability to continue the positive changes to the Hoboken Board of Education.

So….to everyone who supported us publicly, privately, loudly and softly….thank you!

We look forward to getting to work for the children of Hoboken!

Dear Editor:

Please come to the reorganization meeting April 28th at 7 pm as Maureen, Ruthy and I get sworn in and begin to get down to business. We look forward to your continued support and involvement as we work to make our schools the best they can possibly be. We’d like to thank the many friends, neighbors and family members who worked so hard, for a cause they believed in so much: our children's education. We’re excited to have the opportunity to support our students, teachers and the rest of our dedicated staff and look forward to working with the new board.

We would like to give a big thank you to our wonderful campaign manager, Liz Mulholland, who made everything possible; our treasurer, Kai Rebane; our graphic designer, Nancy Pincus; Jan Wilson, who coordinated our letter writing campaign; Greg Bond, our website designer; Jean Marie Mitchell for our beautiful buttons and tee's; Irene Sobolov, Felicia RubinoDrasheff, Liz Markevitch, Carrie Phillips and Barbara Bravo for all their canvassing and getting the word out; Lauren Blumenfeld for her volunteer coordination; Frances Jennings for scheduling our house parties; Rachel Goldberg for organizing the voter id's and call nights; Mac Hartshorn for our photographs; the Rev. Tony Forbes for introducing us to his friends/neighbors; our wonderful children, Gabriela Gross, Jesse McAllister, Timothy Koppisch and Julia Koppisch, and everyone else who put the time in. We must also mention Dawn Zimmer and her army of volunteers, staff and council candidates, Carol Marsh, Ravi Bhalla, and Dave Mello, for their early support and especially these last few days for putting their own campaign to the side and contributing so much to this decisive victory. And extra special thanks go out to our now fellow Board Trustees Carrie Gilliard and Rose Markle for being part of every Kids First campaign since we started and for their tireless efforts on the board.

For everyone who sent or read and responded to an email blast, came to an event, wore a button or tee shirt, hung a poster, wrote a check, or just quietly voted Kids First – Thank You. And now, after the ballots are counted, it’s time to go to work.

See you all this Tuesday, 7pm at 1115 Clinton Street. We're ready to get started.

When Hoboken's Old Guard politicos are involved this type of filth is expected.

It is not a surprise that Move Forward's Old Guard handlers are denying reponsibility for the midnight fliers but isn't that the whole point of them in the first place.

Dear Editor:

I am writing as one of the many “moms” who worked hard for the Kids First team in this past Board of Ed election. Last week, the Kids First team publicly thanked everyone for all their time and support. As a member of this grassroots campaign, I agree, it was incredible to see the support come from every corner and neighborhood in Hoboken.

I wanted to express my own personal gratitude to Dawn Zimmer and her entire team: Ravi Bhalla, Carol Marsh and David Mello and their volunteers, for their support, commitment and HELP when it was needed most. Dawn provided the extra hands, the space, and all the help asked for unconditionally, because she believed in our candidates, believed that the moms of Hoboken deserved a chance to change the status quo on our school board. I believe Dawn’s goals for easing the burden on taxpayers by trimming Hoboken’s school budget and improving our schools’ academic performance to serve our children (and good schools raise property values) are in alignment with those of the Kids First slate. I believe that is why Dawn was unafraid to give Kids First her endorsement, unlike other candidates who either stayed on the sidelines because they were undecided or for the sake of political expediency. Not Dawn. She and her team were there, and not just at our election night party. They were out in the streets canvassing voters, making phone calls, handing out materials, doing all the things that help win elections. Thank you, Team Zimmer, from a Kids First volunteer.

Pincus is the mouth piece for the administration. If they don't condemn her actions, they condone her actions!
