Bayonne doctor at scene of Boston tragedy

Interviewed on NBC, Dr. Martin Levine, a doctor with a practice in Bayonne, described the blasts and aftermath of the April 15 tragic events at the Boston Marathon that left three dead and more than 100 injured. Levine was helping runners recover from the race when the blasts occurred. His role changed, and he and other volunteers provided care for the wounded.

Shooter hits bottle of cooking oil

Sherry Basden-Heard, 29, of Bayonne was charged with trying to shoot a man in what has been described as a domestic situation on April 10. Public Safety Director Jason O’Donnell said the woman allegedly fired a .38 caliber pistol four times, missing the man who allegedly was attempting to force his way into the Newman Avenue house. One of the shots, O’Donnell said, struck a container of Wesson Oil.

Police charge truck driver with leaving the scene

Police Chief Ralph Scianni said Ruben A. Rodriguez, 43, of southern New Jersey has been charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor-vehicle accident, resulting in death.

A police investigation sought the driver involved in a March 9 hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of Justin Bellini, 22, of Bayonne. The investigation involved the state Medical Examiner’s Office, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Bayonne Police.
