Playing their best hockey of the season the (4-4) Blackhawks have reeled off four straight victories while the (2-6) Red Wings rolled into their Jewish Community Center of Bayonne’s Jr. Division Floor Hockey playoff bout on a four game losing streak. The Hawks pounced first as team co-captains Logan Mazziota (2 goals, 1 assist) and Michael Egan (1goal, 2 assists) rocketed the Blackhawks out to a quick 3-0 lead. Undaunted by their slow start, the Red Wings soared back as team captain Megan Feeley led a three goal rally with two net jets and an assist while Declan McCormick added a goal and an assist. Knotted at 3-3, both goalies got some much needed help from their defensemen as Akshat Thakur and Drew Radil guarded the Wings’ Declan Good while the tough tandem of Alexandra and Marcelino Soliman protected the Hawks Harsh Easwar. The rapid fire pace cooled down for about ten minutes before Logan Mazziota’s bulls eye wrist shot made it 4-3 Blackhawks as Mazziota reached the “Hat Trick” rung. Moments later, the Red Wings retied the brawl as Megan Feeley battled a shot to net making it 4 all with just five minutes remaining. Early into the final five of regulation, the Blackhawks’ Logan Mazziota sailed a thirty foot blast to net from his defenseman’s post giving the Hawks a 5-4 advantage. With time running out, the Red Wings’ Megan Feeley zipped a pass to Drew Radil at the right point and Radil slammed in the long score to deadlock the bout at 5-5 and force “sudden death” overtime. Needing a single goal to advance to the championship round, the Blackhawks and Red Wings both kicked their game plans into high gear but it was the Wings’ Drew Radil who played the heroes role as Radil turned a zip-line pass from Declan McCormick into the game winning goal as the Red Wings advanced with a thrilling 6-5 overtime victory.
