It is with great pleasure that I write to you to endorse Councilwoman-At-Large Viola Richardson, for re-election on May 14th.
Years ago, I was elected Jersey City’s first Democratic Councilwoman and, like Viola, I too served the City as Councilwoman-At-Large. So, I know how demanding itis to serve city-wide, particularly in a male-oriented arena. It takes courage, commitment and conviction to stand your ground and represent the needs of ourdiverse community. Viola embodies all of those qualities.
In 2001, when Councilwoman Richardson was first elected, I was working as the Office Manager for the Jersey City Council. Previously, we had worked on opposite teams in the mayoral race. What could have been a contentious relationship, blossomedinto a mutually respectful camaraderie amongst peers. I have always appreciated that Viola puts people and their needs ahead of politics. She is more concerned with what is correct and just, than what is politically popular.
I was there every day in the council office, and every day I saw Viola Richardson show up to do her best and make every effort to respond to her constituents. I came to admire Viola Richardson’s commitment to service, and to admire her integrity.
For these reasons and more, I endorse Viola Richardson for re-election as Jersey City Councilwoman-At-Large. She is a fierce advocate for Jersey City residents – for justice, and respect for every citizen. Please join me on May 14th, and Vote 2B for my friend and colleague, Councilwoman-At-Large Viola Richardson.
