Eleven students from the North Bergen High School Environmental Club spent two days participating in a beach cleanup and “green” initiative at Ortley Beach on the Jersey Shore. The students began on Thursday, March 23 by cleaning up localbeaches before joining an educational symposium with over 100 other students.

Together the students from 11 schools throughout the state discussed environmental issues impacting their communities and brainstormed approaches to keeping waterways clean. In addition to workshops and activities supporting environmental awareness they joined a scavenger hunt at Cattus Island County Park. At the conclusion of the two-day event they received a Certificate ofAppreciation for their participation.

The annual initiative, dubbed the Environmental Exchange, was organized and sponsored by the New Jersey Clean Communities Council (NJCCC), with support from North Bergen Township.
