Racism, or just a bad joke?

Dear Editor:

I was enjoying Jim Hague’s “Twins’ pitcher sheds a little Light on Secaucus second graders” before seeing the statement, “Ramchandani is a Yankees fan. This class has to work on getting kids with last names like Smith and Jones.”

I had to read it four times to make sure I read it correctly. I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a really bad joke about long names that are difficult to spell, and not blatant racism.

Sincerely,
Peter Herbsman
