Mayoral Candidate Peter Cammarano said last week that his campaign was given a five-day extension to file his Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) reports with the state.

The reports, which detail where campaign money is coming from and going to, were due to the state on Monday, June 1, but his campaign said they were given leeway to file them by 5 p.m. on Friday.

ELEC Executive Director Fred Herrmann said today that extensions are only given in case of emergencies, like a medical emergency or some sort of similar circumstance. He said, for instance, if someone’s house burned down they would receive a filing extension.

Herrmann said the commission is not able to confirm or deny any extensions, as they may be part of the investigatory process for ELEC violators. He said also cannot confirm or deny any such investigation, or comment on any particular candidacy.

Herrmann did say that if a report is turned in by the end of the business day, the reports will appear on the ELEC website by 10 a.m. the following morning.

Cammarano’s reports still do not appear on the website, although Cammarano’s campaign said they turned them in on Friday.

Cammarano did not claim any emergency had occurred when asked today; his campaign spokesman said last week that the campaign was unable to complete the forms on time because they were extraordinarily busy.

His campaign forwarded a copy of the report to the Reporter on Monday.

The Reporter also got opponent Dawn Zimmer's reports and will post them later.

Major contributions

Since the May 12 election, Cammarano’s campaign raked in $106,165, according to the report.

Cammarano’s biggest contributors came from outside Hoboken, including $15,900 from The New Frontier Committee in Riverton, N.J. and $10,000 from the North Bergen Democratic Municipal Committee.

Former Councilman Michael Schaffer, who works for the North Hudson Sewerage Authority, contributed $7,500 and and “in-kind” contribution of $2,500 for food and beverages for a fundraiser.

Cammarano also received $6,925 from the NJ Citizens Rights Initiative and $6,000 from the NJ State Laborers PAC.

The Election Fund of State Senate President Richard Codey also donated $5,500 to Cammarano’s campaign.

Cammarnao loaned himself $5,000 and paid political consultants Vision Media and White Horse Strategies more than $30,000 in total.

Hidden is the money from his Newark fundraisers

I wonder how much more is hidden in his council candidate's Elecs.

The New Frontier Committee ($15,900) is a pass-thru PAC designed to hide the source of funds. The source Robert Parisi (Insurance) $2000,

JDA Group (Developer)$7000 Royal Printing $5200 Peter must think very little of us to withhold the report until hours before the election

I imagine Peter has a lot more funds, given his many paid volunteers I've seen all week. Also his party was allegedly in kind donations didn't have to show up in this elec.

Why doesn't ELEC answer a simple question? Probably would say the extension was granted or not if there was no investigation. I think we can all read between the lines in Herrmann's non committal answer.

So to put it into short words:

Peter was lying again and the reporter caught him.
