***FOR RELEASE UPON RECEIPT*** GOODWILL STAFF WORKING OVERTIME TO ADDRESS HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS HERE IN NEW JERSEY Sunday, November 4, 2012, Kristen Kowalski of Pompton Plains organized a neighborhood clothing drive to assist local families devastated by Hurricane Sandy. “Though relativity new to the neighborhood, the staff at Goodwill have proven themselves great neighbors.” says Kowalski as she spend Sunday afternoon sorting out clothing donations she collected this past week. Kowalski pointed out that “Goodwill, located throughout New Jersey, is just one of many local agencies with a mission statement to assist families in need this past week and we residents, not devastated by Sandy, should support their efforts.” “The Goodwill staff here are great, they are so dedicated” explained Kowalski.. ”These people are truly among the unsung heroes in times like this“. “Our Police, Firemen, First Aid Squad, Rangers and of course all the PSE&G workers in and around New Jersey did a wonderful job“. Kowalski noted “our Governor indicated that this was probably the worst storm in the history of New Jersey, and here we are less than a week since Sandy left a path of destruction in her wake and thanks to all these professionals, we’re already bouncing back“ “Collecting clothing is the very least I could do“ reflects Kowalski. “so many professionals and volunteers are putting their lives on the line this week to restore our town to normalcy” Kowalski suggests there are hundreds of examples of neighbors assisting neighbors. “I personally know of two 17 year old Pequannock High School Seniors, Jonathan Danko and Ben Foster who went around the neighborhood with chain saws to assist elderly residents who could not do this type of physical labor.” “I truly admire Jonathan and Ben for their desire to become proactive and assist others rather than just complain about our misfortune.” The National American Miss Organization expects all reigning State representatives to become involved in local and statewide efforts such as clothing drives, food pantry assistance, etc. This past August , Kristen Kowalski, earned the prestigious title of the 2012 National American Miss New Jersey Teen. As reigning National American Miss New Jersey Teen, she will be attending the National Pageant to be held in Anaheim, California. Kristen admits “I can’t wait to share with others the wonderful job New Jersey did in this time of crisis. I’m very proud of our citizens and the altruistic spirit of so many of our professionals, volunteers and regular neighborhood residents displayed this past week.”
