After all the exciting football in 2008, local sports fans are getting ready for Super Bowl XLIII on Feb. 1 when the Pittsburg Steelers take on the Arizona Cardinals in Tampa Bay, Fla.
For the Cardinals, this will be there first Super Bowl appearance since the organization moved to Arizona. The team went 9-7 in the regular season and will be the underdogs against a tough-to-beat Pittsburg Steelers team. But the Cardinals have been playing at the top of their game in the post-season and are making Steelers fans a little worried.
Then again, the Steelers have the best defense in the league with a 12-4 regular season record.
Michael Yavelberg works with an executive job search firm in Manhattan, but lives in Hoboken. An avid sport enthusiast, Yavelberg was happy to share some of his NFL knowledge at Liberty Bar and Grill in Hoboken.
“I think that the Cardinals have finally hit the end of the line,” Yavelberg said. “They went 9-7 in the regular season and have just recently developed a running game. They’re going to have a tough time scoring points on the Steelers.”
Yavelberg admitted that if there was one team that might be able to score points on the Steelers, it would be the Cardinals.
“[Wide Receiver Larry] Fitzgerald is a great story,” Yavelberg said. “He’s been around the NFL since he was in high school when he was a ball boy. When he was younger, he was even mentored by [famed NFL wide receiver] Chris Carter.”
Rory, of West New York, is a server at City Bistro, 56 14th St. in Hoboken. He had a prediction.
“Steelers are definitely going to win,” Rory said. “They’re the better team. The Cardinals have a good offense, but the Steelers’ defense is better. The Cards are just happy to be in the Super Bowl this year. I’ll be really surprised if there’s an upset.”
