While not quite as storied as the Yankees vs. the Dodgers, the Yankees vs. the Mets is a rivalry over years 30 in the making. Long before Roger Clemmens tossed the broken bat at Mike Piazza, there has been a tension between the two teams. So, to coincide with opening day, the Current set out to see which club Hudson Countyites root for. In our travels we discovered that most Hudson County bar-goers prefer the Yankees to the Mets. Here's what some of you said:

"I like the Yankees because they're a great team." - Hoboken resident Michael Lupo (who added that El Duke is his favorite players).

"I like the Yankees, because they're the champions, and everyone loves a champion. I'm definitely not a Mets fan." - Eric Parker, a bartender at the Liberty Bar and Grill

"I'm a Yankee fan. They're the home team and they're close to Jersey. The Mets are all right. I don't love them, but if they make it to the World Series I'll root for them." - David from Bogota, enjoying a pint of beer at the Black Bear bar last Thursday

"There are two reasons I'm a Yankee fan. The Yankees have a minor league team in Greensboro North Carolina, and Dave, my husband, is a huge Yankee fan." - Ann Mailly, a Union City resident who is originally from North Carolina

"I won't watch a Mets game on TV, but I will watch the Yankees. And I've been to more Yankees games. But I'm not a huge baseball fan." - John, quaffing a pint at Hobson's Choice in Hoboken

"I like the Yankees. They're just a great team and they play a great game and the have some really outstanding players. I also like the Mets - I'm a huge sports fan - but I prefer the Yankees." - Justine from Kearny
