BAYONNE AND BEYOND -- Calling the city’s redevelopment authority a failed experiment, Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith said Tuesday he will ask the state for permission to dissolve it.

Smith is seeking to do away with the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority, which was overseeing development of the former Military Ocean Terminal as well as other properties in the city.

Smith is also calling for the dissolution of the Bayonne Parking Authority, which is plagued with lawsuits.

At the City Council meeting scheduled for June 15, Smith is also expected to call for the privatizing of portions of the Bayonne Municipal Utilities Authority as well.
