HOBOKEN AND BEYOND – New York Giants Quarterback Eli Manning may have thought his biggest task of 2012 was defeating the New England Patriots on Sunday night to capture his second Super Bowl title. However, the "Hoboken Batman" (Marlon Rodriguez, of Weehawken, who rides around town dressed as his favorite superhero) feels that “his super arm may be a little more super than that of [Manning].”

So, Batman is putting out an “open call challenge” to the championship quarterback and Hoboken resident for an arm wrestling challenge on Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Scotland Yard bar (72 Hudson St.)

Batman’s sidekick, "Hoboken Robin" (business owner Rory Chadwick), sent out an email to the local press indicating that there will be jars around the bar to collect money for the Hoboken Homeless Shelter.

Rodriguez lives in Weehawken, and his wife Tammy is an Ole Miss alum, just like Manning.

Chadwick said the two did not have any contact information for Manning, who lives in the Hoboken Tea Building. But if Manning reads about the event, they hope he will respond either to say yes or no.

If no one on the Giants comes for the challenge, local residents and patrons of the bar can challenge Batman to an arm wrestling contest. Batman will be in his full attire.

Chadwick said that the event is being held “most importantly to give the shelter in town much needed money to continue to operate.” -- Ray Smith
