What better way to enjoy those hot spring and summer days then to head to the pool? North Bergen’s pool complex on 91st Street will host several activities for members this year.
The complex has three pools: A full-size pool, a competition pool, and children’s pool. There is a spray park for the younger children, a picnic area, and volleyball and basketball courts.
The pool is currently open Monday through Friday from 12 to 8 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m to 8 p.m. More hours will be added starting June 23.
The pool charges a membership fee for residents and is also open to out-of-towners at various higher rates.
“There are currently 2,200 members,” said Joanne Sogluizzo, a pool manager.
The dates for several of the activities have not been finalized yet, but there are tentative dates scheduled.
Movie nights will also be changed from Wednesdays to Thursday, this year. The movie nights will begin on July 12 at 8:30 or 9 p.m. The pool is also open to swimmers during movie nights, which makes it a more memorable night.
Joanne Sogluizzo, one of the managers of the pool, said the tentative date for the annual Pool Luau is Aug. 17. The food for the party is often donated from local vendors in the area.
Water aerobics, bands, and swimming lessons will also be scheduled.
The pool is still open during the rain, said an assistant manager. If there is lightning or thunder, people must leave the pool for 45 minutes by state law. If it thunders three times in a row, the pool must be temporarily closed.
Working at the pool has extra benefits, said a lifeguard.
“Best part of working here is I get a nice tan. It’s a lot of fun for everybody,” said Danny Osorio.
The pool’s address is 2111 91st St. which is past the Vornado Shopping Center. For any further information call (201) 758-2714 and for a 2012 membership application go to www.northbergen.org/web_content/acrobat/poolresgistrationnb.pdf.
