A funeral mass was offered Jan. 17 at St. Paul of the Cross R.C. Church for Thomas E. Mitchell, 94, of Jersey City. He passed away Jan. 13. He was born in Hoboken and lived in Jersey City most of his life. Tom was a firefighter for the Jersey City Fire Dept. for 25 years, retiring out of Engine Company 11 in 1982. He belonged to many organizations throughout his life; Lifetime member of the FMBA, IAFF, Exempts, Vice president of the Holy Name Society of St. Paul of the Cross, and the Patterson St. Senior Citizens. He was also a veteran of the Air Force during WWII. Tom is survived by his wife of many years, Helen; his three children and their husbands, Susan Mitchell Abbate and Thomas, Maureen Mitchell Nikiper and Mark, Kerry Mitchell Przebieglec and Mark; and his grandchildren, Thomas Nikiper and Michael Abbate. Services arranged by the Fallon Funeral Home, Jersey City.
