I write to bring to the public's attention and the County's Director of Parks, the urgent need to resoil and reseed stretches of Jersey City's Washington Park which are stripped of vegetation. Aside from reseeding, Jersey City police cars should no longer park on the grass and county park workers must avoid compacting the soil by driving over the lawn edges in their trucks. A consistent reseeding and replacement of top soil is necessary over the long-term for Jersey City's Washington Park. The WPA permaculture garden in the park is rich in organic matter and vegetation to ward off wind and soil erosion. But elsewhere throughout the park there's a growing patchwork of park barren of vegetation: dirt instead of soil.
I hope both the Hudson County Parks Department and Jersey City Police Department become more aware and vigilant by taking actions to restore, conserve, and keep our green spaces sustainable and thriving.
