Report: Second arrest made in shooting death of 12-year-old boy in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY – A second suspected has reportedly been arrested in the May 17 shooting death of 12-year-old Gywan Levine Jr., according to a report from NJ.com. According the website, police in East Orange arrested a 33-year-old Irvington man in connection with the incident.

This suspect is the second person to be arrested in connection with the Levine shooting. Last month, police also arrested a woman from Rahway whom they allege was also involved in the incident. Authorities suspect that robbery was the motive.

Levine, who was in the seventh grade, was with his father, Gywan Levine Sr., on the night of May 17. The pair had been playing basketball and the younger Levine was dribbling his basketball on Rutgers Avenue when they were allegedly approached by three people. Shots were fired, leaving Gywan Levine Jr. with a gunshot wound to the upper chest. He later died from the injury at Jersey City Medical Center.

The father was shot in the leg but survived his injury.

The Irvington suspect has been charged with felony murder, armed robbery, and weapons charges in connection with the Gywan A third suspect, a man, is still at large and being sought by police, according to NJ.com, who believe that robbery was the motive for the crime.
