STATEWIDE -- Gov. Chris Christie announced Thursday afternoon that he will appoint Attorney General Jeff Chiesa to Frank Lautenberg's vacant Senate seat until the spot is filled by a special election in October. Lautenberg passed away on Monday.

Chiesa, who served as chief counsel to Christie through all of 2010 and 2011, won't run for the seat in the election, Christie said.
