A private memorial service was held for William F. Penrose Jr., 90, of Union City. He passed away peacefully on June 22, 2013. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Patrick. He is survived by his wife, Alvera, of 62 years; six children, Marybeth (and Michael) Peters, daughter-in-law Kathy Penrose, Melissa (and Tom) Trieckel, Mark (and Bridget) Penrose, Matthew (and Karen) Penrose, Jonathan (and Betsy) Penrose, and Faith (and Jim) Brandt; thirteen grandchildren, Mark Peters, Chris Peters, Emily Peters, Sarah Trieckel, Robert Trieckel, Timothy Trieckel, William Penrose III, Chris Penrose, Kilcey Penrose, Andrew Penrose, Ian Penrose, Samantha Brandt, Andrea Brandt, and many friends and family. Born in 1923 in Jersey City, Bill fought in World War II in the European theater as a machine gunner. After the war he worked in trucking before joining PSEG, from which he retired in 1989. Bill loved fishing, hunting, wood working, camping, traveling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Services arranged by Leber Funeral Home, Union City.
