Dear Editor:
I am writing to remind my fellow residents to vote this Tuesday. More specifically, I ask those of you between 20 and 34 years old., who comprise over half of Hoboken's population, to participate in determining the future of our city.
If you feel that our government is not being responsive to our needs, we only have ourselves to blame if we do not vote or hold our elected officials accountable for its actions. Some may look down on us as "newcomers." But we only reinforce stereotypes about ourselves if we continue to sit back and let others decide our future for us.
What can we do? Attend City Council meetings. Register to vote. If you're already registered, vote this Tuesday in the City Council runoff election, and consider voting for the candidates of the Hoboken Alliance for Accountable Government: Ron Rosenberg in the 1st Ward; Elizabeth Mason in the 2nd Ward and Daniel deCavaignac in the 6th Ward. These candidates are concerned citizens who will speak up for all of us in City Hall, whether we've lived here for three years or 30 years.
Thank you for making a difference.
