Grace Van Vorst was recently robbed twice, which is especially sad since our dollars are so stretched in caring for senior citizens and homeless people. We "lost" a computer, a karaoke machine and two boom boxes. Our building's phone system was ransacked, shelving torn down and over $300 worth of food, including 40 pounds of sugar, was stolen.
Ironically, we have enough funds to redo the kitchen but so little for the programs or the basic necessities -- plates, food, exercise equipment, art supplies, pots and pans... To help, you can participate by contributing to a "shower" on or before March 31st at noon or a Flea Market on April 3rd. You can send a tax-deductible donation to Grace Van Vorst Community Service. Donations can be delivered or mailed to Grace Van Vorst, 39 Erie Street, (enter on 2nd Street), Jersey City, NJ 07302.
Volunteers are also welcomed at Grace Seniors which operates 10-2 daily with aerobic, yoga, art, quilting, lunch and also the Breakfast Plus Program to feed the hungry, Saturday morning from 7 to 10 that provides the guests with eggs, meat, pancakes, grits, peanut butter and jelly, coffee, tea.
Please speak with your friends about the work we do and how they can contribute. We look forward to your help in promoting the health of our work together in Jersey City.
