I have known Maureen Sullivan since our daughters started at Mile Square Pre-K at Wallace nearly five years ago. Over the years, we have worked together on numerous activities in the schools, and Maureen has always been one of the first to raise her hand to volunteer. She doesn't just care about her two children. She wants all the school kids to have a better experience.
When you go to a school event, there's Maureen, handing out the pizza slices, organizing the uniform swap, selling raffle tickets. I also know how much she does behind the scenes, like sitting on plenty of committees and volunteering in the classrooms. She spots new parents in school and makes them feel welcome.
Now Maureen is running for the school board. Part of me thinks she's crazy for wanting to do it. But mostly I'm proud of her for representing us parents who know her from the playground and the bingo nights and the field trips. We want someone on the board of education who knows the issues from the inside and is never afraid to speak her mind.
Maureen will make an excellent addition to the school board, and I urge you to vote for her on April 15. She will fight for a better education and better opportunities for all of our children.
