A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Jan. 10 at the Church of Saint Elizabeth, Avon, for James John Pollock of Avon. He passed away peacefully on Jan. 6, surrounded by his family, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. James retired as a battalion chief in the Jersey City Fire Department in 1997. Prior to becoming a fireman, James worked as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union. James was a Marine Corp. veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War.

He was born in Jersey City and lived in Kearny before moving to Avon in 1979. From a very young age, James was a hardworking compassionate person who always put the needs of others in front of his own and took great care of his family. He was a fixture on the Avon boardwalk and loved his daily swims in the Avon pool every summer. James is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eileen (Behrens) Pollock; his children Jacqueline Pollock McCaffrey and her husband James of New York City and Avon, Eileen Pollock Martin and her husband Steve of Somerset; James John Pollock of Asbury Park; Brian J. Pollock and his wife Alexis of Manasquan; and his grandchildren, Thomas, Michaela and Rhianna Pollock, Matthew and Natalie Martin and Liam and Sidney Pollock. He will be dearly missed by his surviving siblings Agnes Cassely and Kathleen Pollock and Joseph Pollock. Services arranged by the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune .
