To the Editor:

I would love to extend a warm thank you to Mike Bruckler, general manager of Frank's Theatres, South Cove, Bayonne, for providing the first-ever sensory movie showing (of the movie “Walking with Dinosaurs” this past weekend). At a sensory showing, the lights are dimmed but not off, the sound is lowered, and there are no trailers. The audience is allowed to make sounds, noise, etc. without being quieted. I think I speak for the special-needs community and parents when I say we are very appreciative. Everybody at Frank's was super helpful and nice, and the families all had a great time. I know my son and I did. We even have a date for the next sensory movie showing of “The Nut Job,” February1, at 10 a.m.

Today provided my family an opportunity go our son to keep trying to be able to sit for a movie without the usual stares and comments. He still did not sit, but I was able to keep trying without feeling pressured or feeling like my son stood out from all the other kids. Children were dancing and singing in a comfortable place. You cannot possibly understand what this means to parents whose children's are so often stigmatized. We will be back to try yet again, one day it will happen! Thank you !!!!!!

Thank you Frank's Theatre for showing the sensory friendly movies. My family and I have attended both movies and enjoyed them very much! This is a perfect setting for children with special needs. A big thank you to Elisha DeMaria for organizing these wonderful showings! We are looking forward to future sensory friendly movies. :-)
