Snow from Monday's storm was still coating power lines on Tuesday, adding to the potential for hazards. In addition, it is predicted that snow will fall this coming Sunday into Monday.
As of Tuesday night, Bayonne, Jersey City, Hoboken, West New York, and Weehawken public schools announced they would be closed on Wednesday. If your town isn't among those listed, double check with your local school or the school website.
The National Weather Service's official forecast read: "ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 3 TO 6 INCHES...ALONG WITH ONE QUARTER TO ONE HALF INCH OF ICE....TRAVEL WILL BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DUE TO SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL KNOCK DOWN TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES."

In related news, on Tuesday, Hoboken Superintendent of Schools posted this letter on the district website:
During the last snowstorm we experienced a problem with our “robocall” system that resulted in some of our parents receiving a school closing phone call after 7AM. We understand that a call after 7AM creates a number of problems. Keep in mind that our first attempt to notify the school community about the school closing took place at 5:45 AM and because we received reports that calls did not go through, we made a number of other attempts. Some of you received more calls than you would have liked to receive, but we felt that it was necessary knowing that some residents and staff members may not have been aware that school was closed.
At this point, we have the problem resolved and in the future all calls should go out in a timely manner. Please remember that we make many other efforts to communicate any decision to close school. One easy way to double check a school closing announcement is to log on to the district website. We update the website almost as soon as we announce a closing. We also post our school closings on WNBC 4, WABC 7, FOX 5, and Channel 12. If you have any doubts about a school closing, and you did not receive a call, please check the website or the television channels.
Another situation that sometimes causes trouble when we send out emergency notifications is when parents change their phone numbers and forget to notify the school district. Please be sure to notify the school district about any changes with your home or mobile phone numbers.
