On Monday, Feb. 24, the Weehawken Elks Lodge held their annual Drug Awareness and Americanism Poster and Essay Contest Pizza Party and Award Ceremony.

Each year the lodge sponsors a poster contest for grades 3, 4, and 5 and an essay-writing contest for grades 6, 7, and 8.

This year’s theme was “Down with Drugs, Up with Awareness.

The winners each received certificates and checks for $75.

Four of the five first place winners also won first place in the Elks East District which encompasses nine local towns.

Awards were given to Rose Zamorra, third grade poster winner; Morgan Tomlinson, fourth grade poster winner; Collin Shevlin, fifth grade Poster winner; Elias Hunt, sixth grade essay winner; and Gianna Valicenti, seventh grade essay winner.
