To the Editor:

My name is Stephenie Fisette-Cotter, and I am married to Thomas Cotter. I’m writing to tell you a little bit about this man who is running for First Ward Council. First, personally, we as a family were fortunate enough to be able to have one parent home to help raise our children; it just so happened, it made sense for us financially to continue with my work and for him to stay home with our kids. That’s not easy for a man to accept. In society, it is looked upon as the man who is the one who is supposed to be the bread winner. So for someone such as my husband, who does hold strong traditional values, this was a little difficult to digest. However, he dedicated himself wholeheartedly in the upbringing of our children. They have a bond that is immeasurable and I believe that in looking back, he sees himself as fortunate to have been able to spend those quality years with our kids.

Second, he gets himself involved. No matter how big or small, it is all important to him. He sees everything through to the finish. It doesn’t matter what brick wall he faces. He is a passionate workhorse with a heart of gold. Tommy is a true leader. He will never be swayed in a direction without moral backing. He holds firm in his ethics. To quote the English author, G.K. Chesterton, “The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.” Tommy is that soldier.

He supports the views of Jimmy Davis for mayor. He sees that Bayonne needs a different direction and he knows there is a lot of work ahead. He believes in an elected school board. He believes that Bayonne has sites for safer recreation with better fields and utilization of space available. And taxes, enough said.

I hope you will give him the opportunity to serve and represent you as First Ward Councilperson. Now is the time to take a stance and make a change for the better. I know he will not disappoint. Without your voice, change cannot happen. Please vote this May for Thomas Cotter for First Ward Councilperson along with the other candidates on Team Davis.
