Jarzyk’s family confirmed on Facebook Tuesday night that the body was indeed that of Jarzyk, who disappeared from the Hoboken waterfront around 2 a.m. on March 30 while jogging along Pier A Park. It is still unclear how Jarzyk ended up in the water.
Police said that the identification was made using dental records and other personal identifiers, likely Jarzyk’s tattoos and scars.
Jarzyk’s family on Tuesday issued a heartfelt thanks to those who assisted in the month-long search for their brother and son (see related stories linked below for more details).
“Although this has been a very tragic ending, we have been able to get through this because of love, faith, and outpouring support that we have received from everyone. Andrew would be so proud. As we begin the healing process, please continue to be positive,” wrote his brother Steve.
Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer on Wednesday offered her condolences to Jarzyk’s family.
"My heart goes out to Andrew's family and friends during this very difficult time," she said. – Dean DeChiaro
