BAYONNE – Newly inaugurated Mayor James Davis has spent the past couple of days in office getting acclimated to his city hall surroundings and reaching out to and meeting municipal employees.

On July 3, Davis received a surprise visit from former Bayonne High School classmate Anna Bilotta, now of Florence, Italy. Bilotta stopped by to wish Davis, BHS Class of 1981, good luck in his new post.

“I haven’t seen her since high school,” a grinning Davis said. Bilotta had met her husband in Italy and relocated there.

Davis was sworn in by U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez during a ceremony on Tuesday, July 1, as was his five-member city council team.

On June 10, Davis defeated then-incumbent Mayor Mark Smith in a runoff, necessitated when neither candidate garnered more than 50 percent of the vote in the regular May 13 election. –Joseph Passantino
