The ballot drawing for the June 9 Hoboken mayoral and council runoff elections was held today at Hoboken City Hall. Candidate Dawn Zimmer drew the top spot, a position her competition Peter Cammarano enjoyed in the first election.

Cammarano added former candidate Beth Mason's council slate members, Vinnie Addeo and Raul Morales II, to form a three candidate council slate with Cammarano's lone council candidate in the runoff, Angel Alicea.

Cammarano and those three will now face Zimmer and her council slate of Carol Marsh, Ravi Bhalla, and Dave Mello.

City Clerk Jim Farina said he was unsure of the legal precendent for merging slates, but a representative of the City Clerk's Office said that Corporation Counsel Steven Kleinman cleared the move and that it was perfectly legal.

Cammarano was not immediately available for comment.

Merging slates was legal sleight of hand, but who cares?

Peter is the pro-Roberts/anti-Change candidate, and his new supporters just drive that home.

Thanks for clearing everything up hobo87. So what you're telling me is Beth is a skilled politician. Good for her. Bad for you. And grow up. You sound more like one of Tony S's numerous screennames. Most of Dawn's supporters have some class.

Andy, if you could get out of denial about Beth Mason you'd see whose pandering caused this situation. Mason was pandering to the old guard to choose people like Addeo and Morales in the first place, because she thought it was the way to get elected, not out of 'integrity'. Having made that slimy deal, it's true it would have been *too embarrassing* (again not integrity) to endorse Zimmer's whole slate.

Addeo and Morales aren't really pandering: they represent the old guard, so does Cammarano, why not get together? And it was totally predictable.

This farce, of 'Mason for Change' nominally still operating under Jake Stuiver and endorsing Zimmer, Bhalla, Addeo and Morales; Zimmer running with slate; and Cammarano running with Alicea, Addeo and Morales, is caused by Mason feeling she had to make a renewed council endorsement. She could simply have politely mentioned Addeo/Morales in her post defeat press release, then just mentioned her endorsement of Zimmer the other day and not mentioned the council race again. Why didn't she do that? TiltedHeadDave nailed it: she felt she has to endorse Bhalla to to avoid or defuse a challenge from him in the 2nd Ward in 2011.

TiltedHeadDave, I don't necessarily agree with you, but your last line was tops.

Mason did what she did b/c she couldn't turn her back on Addeo & Morales she's scared of Bhalla taking her spot as 2nd ward councilperson in 2 years.

Addeo & Morales had no choice. They, along w/Cammarano & Alicea are the only alternatives 2 Dawn, Carol, Ravi & Dave. Whether by default or design, Cammarano, Alicea, Addeo & Morales were a "team." It's in all their best interests 2 formalize it, work together, support each other & maximize their potential.

Also, Cammarano was going 2 be spending money on the campaign whether it was just 4 him & Alicea or 4 a full ticket. Addeo & Morales now get taken in on all materials & promotional opportunities as opposed 2 having 2 handle that themselves w/o the support of a mayoral candidate.

It's the right move 4 Cammarano & Alicea, it's the right move 4 Addeo & Morales, it's the right move 4 all of Hoboken & I think it might be exactly what was necessary 2 take out Zimmer & her anti B&R ticket which lacks any diversity & desire 4 1-Hoboken whatsoever.

ON JUNE 9, PLEASE VOTE CAMMARANO (3A) & ALICEA (5B), ADDEO (6B) & MORALES (7B)

I'm TiltedHeadDave & I approve this message.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a little weird? That the candidate supports Zimmer and her slate decided to support the other guy and join forces with him? I know Beth has integrity but these 2 guys from the old guard seem to have pandered to Cammarano just to get elected. Way to stick with your original ticket. Maybe someone from Beth's campaign can explain this? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but maybe you should make sure they are clear before the election not afterwards when you get a do-over.
