This sign was spotted on Tuesday near the corner of Park Avenue and Jefferson Street in Weehawken. Have you seen the crossing guard's Easter basket or perhaps picked it up for your child? Apparently it has sentimental value. If you find it, contact local officials or perhaps leave a note on the sign.

PSE&G reminds you that buildings must supply heat in October, and more

The calendar still says summer, but chilly weather will be here before you know it. Public Service Electric and Gas Co. (PSE&G) encourages its residential gas heating customers to test their heating system now, so they can be confident it will operate safely and efficiently when temperatures begin to drop.

“Our town has a local heat ordinance in place and any landlord who does not comply with the ordinance will face summons and fines,” said Mayor Felix E. Roque. “Housing Code Inspectors and Health Officers will make it a priority to inspect any and all complaints received for lack of heat.”

Landlords and owners of buildings are required to supply heat from Oct. 1 of each year until May 1 at a temperature of at least 68°F at all times and on a constant 24-hour basis whenever the outside temperature falls below 55°F during any 24-hour period.

If there is a problem starting the system a PSE&G service technician will come out to start the unit. To make an appointment, customers can call 1-800-436-7734, or schedule online at pseg.com/myaccount .

Complaints for lack of heat can be made on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. by calling the Health Department at (201) 295-5070. Complaints can be made during the evening or on weekends by calling the Police Department at (201) 295-5000 or the Fire Department at (201) 854- 1212. Complaints will be forwarded to a Health Investigator who will investigate immediately. If your furnace is not working properly, PSE&G customers can call 1-800-350-PSEG (7734) or go to www.pseg.com to register their account and schedule repair services online.
