U.S. Attorney's Office Spokesperson Michael Drewniak confirmed Friday that Harold “Hal” Turner, a controversial white supremacist internet radio host and blogger, was being held without bail after his June 23 hearing at U.S. District Court in Newark, N.J.

During the hearing it was disclosed that Turner allegedly had a stockade of weapons, Drewniak said. They included 200 rounds of ammunition, of which 150 rounds of hollow-point bullets, a shotgun, and three handguns when F.B.I. agents arrested him at his home.

Turner his being held on charges that he threatened to kill three Chicago federal judges.

Turner’s Newark-based attorney, Michael Orozco, said that Turner possessed permits for the weapons. He had no comment on whether Turner was a member of a rifle or pistol club under the rules of the National Board for the Promotion of Rifle Practice. New Jersey state law allows sportsmen to hold, transport and use hollow points if they follow certain restrictions.

Conditions surrounding a possible $200,000 bail were discussed by U.S. District Court Judge Michael Shipp, which included Turner staying off of the internet, having no contact with those he allegedly targeted, and surrendering broadcasting equipment.

He is currently being held without bail until a subsequent bail hearing, which has not yet been set, said Drewniack.

Orozco said that he was "doubtful" that Turner would make bail by the weekend, but figured he would by Monday.

Drewniack said that Turner was awaiting extradition by the U.S. Marshalls service to Chicago. There are no court dates set.

If convicted Turner stands to serve 10 years in prison, as well as an additional 10 years if he is convicted on recent Connecticut charges.

As of today, Turner’s recent internet posts on his website had been removed. – Tricia Tirella
