RYAN, BRIDGET P.

A funeral mass was offered Jan. 10 at St. Joseph’s Church for Bridget P. Ryan, “Phyllis”, 84. She passed away at her home peacefully on Jan. 7. Bridget was born in Tygreenane Taum, County Galway, Ireland and emigrated to the United States in 1950, settling in Jersey City shortly thereafter. Phyllis was employed as an administrator for St. Joseph’s School for the Blind from 1971, retiring in 1993. She was a parishioner and an active volunteer at St. Joseph’s Church.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband John T. “Jack” Ryan. She is survived by her children, Kathleen DeLeonardis, John T. Ryan, III, (Cathy), Martin J. Ryan and Michael P. Ryan, (Susan); grandchildren, John T, Thomas and Shane Ryan, Kaitlyn and Morgaine DeLeonardis; siblings, Thomas, Christine, Theresa, Carmel and Sara, all in Ireland, as well as many nieces and nephews both in the United States and Ireland. Phyllis is also predeceased by several other siblings.
Phyllis was a beautiful strong woman. She lived her life for her family and friends. She was known to always have a crochet needle in her hand, spending her life knitting everyone beautiful blankets. She enjoyed spending summers in her home town in Galway Ireland visiting her many brothers and sisters. She enjoyed watching sports she was an avid baseball fan and loved the Mets. Phil would always attend all her sons sports games and later in life enjoyed attending her youngest grandson Shane’s games. She was known to be in the kitchen on Sunday cooking for all her relatives. Phil was kind and gentle soul who would always be there to offer help to anyone in need.
