Thanks for making kids smile

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Bayonne Cal Ripken baseball league, I would like to thank everyone for contributing to our 10th annual “Make a Kid Smile” campaign.
When I first formed the “Make a Kid Smile” campaign 10 years ago, I had no idea that it would turn into something so spectacular. The donations poured in and we helped numerous kids and their families during some difficult times.
Ten years later it has turned into not only a Cal Ripken baseball league event, but folks from all over wanting to help. People from all over the city of Bayonne contribute, and donations as far away as Blairstown, Toms River, Point Pleasant, Union and Somerset all helped with this great cause.
As we have done so for the past seven years, we were able to partner with two of our great league sponsors, Modell’s Sporting Goods in Jersey City and The Bayonne PBA (Police Benevolent Association) who made significant donations to help get things started, and with that we had something special going again.
After it was all said and done, we raised $7,020 and helped 71 kids and their families. The smiles from the kids were priceless and the stories on how we touched some of their lives left us with tears in our eyes and memories we will never forget.
In closing, a big thanks to all the folks who made donations, some who have done so from the very beginning 10 years ago. Thanks to my friend Jen from Lapinski photo, who spent the entire day, as she always does, taking awesome pictures of the kids. Thanks to all the teachers, admins, nurses and principals from all the schools in Bayonne, who care about their kids and went out of their way to provide the names and families so that we could help them. Finally, a big thanks to the Bayonne Community News for always being so kind to post an article prior to the event, to help spread the word which helps with more donations. God Bless and thanks for helping to make some kids smile.
