To the Editor:
This letter is in regard to BTA President Mr. Alan D’Angelo’s remark in the Bayonne Community News on January 25: “No one can live with no raise for two years,” regarding teacher salaries.
Mr. D’Angelo should speak to seniors on Social Security who have not gotten a raise in two years. As homeowners, a good portion of our real estate taxes are spent on the school system. Many of us have never used the school system and have no family members employed there. Most of us pay premium prices for our health insurance. Our cost of goods has gone up dramatically in the past two years ,and we saw no increase in our income.
So, Mr. D’Angelo, you are not the only one who has not gotten a raise in two years. We seniors, the most vulnerable in our society, haven’t gotten a raise either.
