O’Hara, Kowal star in O.T. as Comets win

At (2-0) and for the most part untested, the Comets rolled into their week two JCC of Bayonne Sr. Division Indoor Soccer rematch with the (1-1) Rockets as confident bunch. After having two quick goals waved off due to line infractions, the Comets suddenly found themselves trailing 1-0 after Matteo Capurso scored off an assist by Aaliyana Cifuentes to put the Rockets up 1-0. Trailing for the first time this season, the Comets battled back as Damian Posluszny assisted Kyle O’Hara on a game tying blast. Tied at 1-1, the Rockets surged again as Cifuentes notched her second assist as she fought a pass to Raul Cortinas who drilled in his first goal of the season. The one goal lead was short lived as Damian Posluszny bullied in two lightning bolts off assists by Sebastian Posluszny and Jacob Kowal to give the Comets a 3-2 advantage. With time running out, the Rockets began pumping shots up court with Ezekiel Lupainez, Jason Herbert and Christopher Caballero booming the ball to their sharp shooters. After a few near misses, the Rockets finally tied the bout at 3 all as Matteo Capurso drilled his 11th goal of the season. Facing an overtime shootout, the Comets settled in on defense with Kasper Hooks, Joyce Gabreal and Khaled Rasslan ball hawking to force overtime. Playing in an overtime match for the first time this season, the goal tenders ruled out of the gate until the Rockets’ Jacob Kowal ended the drama with the game winning dart for a 4-3 decision.
