The takeaway, glug glug glug

Two local schools have been turning Hoboken’s water infrastructure headache into a learning experience.
Hoboken suffered its fourth water main break this year in the wee hours of Tuesday, Feb. 28 at Fifth Street and Willow Avenue, following breaks on Jan. 4 at Observer Highway and Willow Avenue, Jan. 14 at 2nd and Clinton streets, and Feb. 15 on 2nd Street between Washington and Bloomfield streets.
While the city government tries to cope with the breaks and renegotiates its contract with the water company, on Friday, March 3, Stevens students had the chance to check out Hoboken’s Washington Street project with its engineer, T&M Associates. They met at the project headquarters (Washington between 7th and 8th) and walked up to 9th.
And preschool students at the Mustard Seed School have created their own interpretations of the problem. The water main break and sink hole that occurred right in front of Mustard Seed School were very exciting to the three and four-year old crowd. They immediately wanted to make drawings and explore what happened.
