Capurso fuels high flying Rockets

Facing off in a preview of next week’s JCC of Bayonne Sr. Division Indoor Soccer “Championship Tournament” playoff round, the (3-4) Rockets and the (0-6) Sonics hit the court. Rushing out to a 2-0 lead on two goals by Matteo Capurso, the Rockets seemed to be well in control. It took just three minutes for that to all change when Drew Radil scored off an assist by Jaiden Garcia quickly followed by a second game tying blast by Jacob Rivera with Sebastian Echeverry on the assist. Deadlocked at 2-2, the Sonics once again fell into a malaise while the Rockets fired up the jets. Inspite of superb defensive efforts by the Sonics’ Kailey Delauter and Mariam Rasslan, the Rockets began to dominate. Scoring eight unanswered goals, the Rockets lit up the scoreboard as Matteo Capurso (5 goals, 2 assists), Aaliyana Cifuentes (1 goal, 3 assists), Raul Cortinas (1 goal), and Jason Herbert (1 goal) each pitched in. Taking full control defensively, the Rockets relied heavily on Christopher Caballero and Ezekiel Lupainez to squelch any Sonics surge. Wrapping things up in their final playoff prep, the Rockets rolled to a 10-2 win.
