Man arrested after allegedly assaulting an officer
Jersey City resident Sammy Navarro, 36, was arrested on Wednesday, March 22 at 11:24 p.m. for alleged drug possession and allegedly assaulting an officer.
According to a press release from the Hoboken Police Department, Officers William Bullock and Tyrone Huggins were in the area of 540 Marshall Drive when they saw Navarro near a bicycle rack looking at the rack and its surroundings. Navarro walked away upon noticing the officers, according to the release. Officers then saw him in another location “peering into a vehicle and looking at bicycles on another rack,” police said.
Officers decided to approach Navarro and investigate further and during their conversation it was determined he had several outstanding warrants. While officers attempted to place him under arrest, he allegedly resisted by preventing the officers from handcuffing him and allegedly striking Sergeant Corrado Allegretta in the face. Navarro was eventually subdued and placed under arrest. A search of his person found him to allegedly be in possession of a bottle containing liquid PCP.
He was charged with possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) PCP, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, three counts of bail jumping from Roselle Park, Springfield, and Mt. Laurel N.J. and one open warrant from the Hudson County Sheriff’s Department.
He was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
Out-of-towners arrested after Hoboken brawl
According to a report from Hoboken police, three out-of-town men were arrested on Friday, March 17 at 11:36 p.m. after police officers observed a group of men fighting near First and Washington Streets. As the officers attempted to separate the group they observed Garfield resident Vincent Paladino, 22, and 21-year-old Lodi resident Bayron Zamora allegedly strike a male in the face and kick and strike another who was laying on the ground. As Detective Anthony Olivera attempted to place Paladino under arrest, Olivera allegedly pushed the detective and fled the scene on foot while Zamora allegedly fled in the other direction. Zamora was apprehended by Officer David Dimartino. Officer Michael Depalma apprehended Paladino a short distance away. As Paladino was being placed under arrest, police were approached by a friend of Paladino, Lodi resident Jarell Finley, 22, who allegedly tried to distract the officers and interfere with the arrest. All three were transported to headquarters for processing and received summonses with a court appearance.
Zamora and Paladino were both charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and resisting arrest/eluding while Finley was charged with obstruction and resisting arrest/ eluding.

On Sunday, March 20 at 1:40 a.m. while on patrol, Officers Frank Francolino and Sargent Edward Sellick observed Union City resident 26-year-old Javier Fong-Martinez arguing with another man outside of McDonald’s at 234 Washington St., according to a report from Hoboken police. The officers separated the men and sent them on their way, one entering McDonald’s and the other leaving the scene. Moments later, as the officers were still on the scene, they were approached by a male who had sustained an injury to his lip. He told officers he had been allegedly assaulted inside McDonald’s. When he pointed to a man inside, the officers noted that it appeared to be the same man from the previous argument. Fong-Martinez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was transported to headquarters where he was released with a summons with a court appearance.
Hoboken homeless man arrested two times in six days
Hoboken resident Nathaniel Peterson, 49, described as homeless by police, was charged with defiant trespass, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, and uttering terroristic threats on March 12, according to a police report.
Det. William Collins was patrolling the Housing Authority area when he observed Peterson exiting 221 Jackson St.
Collins knew Peterson did not live in the building and inquired why he was on Hoboken Housing property. Peterson allegedly failed to provide a valid reason and when police went to place him under arrest for defiant trespassing he allegedly pushed the officer and fled the scene.
He was caught a short distance away and a struggle ensued and other officers arrived on scene to assist with the arrest. He was remanded to Hudson County Correctional Facility. Collins sustained no serious injuries apart from a laceration.
Then on March 24, he was arrested again at 3:12 a.m. and charged with criminal trespass and possession of CDS heroin. Police found Peterson in the stairwell of 310 Marshall Dr. and knew he didn’t live there. When he was unable to give a valid reason as to why he was in the building police arrested him and allegedly found him to be in possession of two wax folds of heroin. He was again transported to headquarters, processed, and remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
Police concern leads to arrest
According to a police report, on March 23 at 2:48 p.m. the Hoboken Police Department arrested Union City resident Jason Alvarez, 36, and Bayonne resident Christian Martinez 33. Officers Ray Calderon and Wilfredo Gomez were on patrol in the area of Sixth and Jefferson streets when they observed both men outside 605 Jefferson St. Martinez was slumped over the railings. Officers approached Martinez and Alvarez in order to decide if Martinez needed medical attention but as the officers reached them Martinez became alert to their presence and was able to speak with the officers. The officers requested identification to see if they lived in the building when Alvarez allegedly dropped a hypodermic syringe on the ground. Alvarez was then placed under arrest and charged with possession of a hypodermic syringe and was allegedly found to be in possession of stolen items from a nearby address and was additionally charged with receiving stolen property. Martinez was found to have two outstanding warrants and was charged for two counts of bail jumping. Martinez also received medical attention and both were remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
