Time for a new civic league in Bayonne

To the Editor:

Do you feel that we can do better when it comes to the wellbeing and future of Bayonne? We expect the best from our state and city leaders, but we know that Bayonne has a rich history, determined citizenry, and a wealth of untapped potential. Our goal is to ensure that the right things are being done to keep this town safe, clean, and prosperous.
For example, we’d like to encourage a greater variety of businesses on Broadway. We need industry to come back to Bayonne, and we need more thoughtful incentives to inspire businesses to operate here. We need safe and clean neighborhoods for our children, and to do right by those who have sworn to protect us. Most important, we need to do more than trust our local government to do the right thing once they’ve been elected – to be that extra push and source of vision that they sometimes lack between election cycles.
A nonpartisan civic league will have the best means to provide such a unified front. With a single organization that keeps its members informed about city meetings and activities, understands what is being proposed and set in place, and champions the most important priorities that will have the most positive effect, we will become more unified, interested, and informed. If this is something that appeals to you, please email the Bayonne Civic League at bayonne.civic.league@gmail.com.
