Zacche to retire as police chief in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY — Mayor Steven Fulop announced Tuesday that Police Chief Philip Zacche will retire as chief of the Jersey City Police Department effective June 1 after a 38-year career of public service.
Effective June 1, the administration will commence a national search for a new police chief and will be accepting applications from both within the department and outside the department searching for the best applicant. The applicant period will conclude Aug. 1, at which point the administration will interview the most qualified applicants.
Before his appointment as chief in July 2014, Zacche, a 38-year-veteran of the department, served as chief of the Investigations Bureau and previously served as Commander of the North District for seven years until his promotion to Deputy Chief in 2012.
