Three new lanes open at 14A toll plaza

BAYONNE – Three toll lanes reopened this week at the NJ Turnpike 14A interchange toll plaza after paving work was completed on lanes 8, 9, and 10, as crews continue to expand the plaza from 11 lanes to 13.

Crews continue foundation drilling at the northern end of Avenue E to install new bridge columns. This week, a drilled shaft reinforcement cage will be installed.

In the ramp area east of Route 440, road construction continues on new connector ramps as asphalt paving is taking place on the ramp entering Rt. 440 South between Port Jersey Boulevard and Rt. 440.

Over the weekend of May 5, new steel is planned for installation in the connector bridge between the toll plaza and Port Jersey Boulevard, which is over the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and Conrail freight lines. During weekend construction activity, light rail service between 34th Street in Bayonne and Danforth Avenue in Jersey City will be replaced by shuttle buses operated by NJ Transit. In case of construction delays, the backup date for construction and light rail service suspension will be the following weekend of May 12.

Roadway and median construction continues for the new jug handle ramp around the intersection of Rt. 440 and Pulaski Street. Ramps between the toll plaza and the Hudson County Extension are planned for resurfacing in 2017, but an exact date has yet to be announced.
