Flooding has caused suspensions and street closures

HUDSON COUNTY—Friday’s heavy rain caused delays and detours for Hudson County commuters and the National Weather Service has a flash flood warning.
According to an alert from the PATH, NJ Transit began cross honoring PATH customers at New York Penn, Newark Penn, and Hoboken Stations this afternoon and the JSQ-33 and HOB-33 Path lines were suspended due to a power problem and the elevator at Hoboken Station is also temporarily out of service.
NJ Transit also sent a tweet informing passengers that entrances at NY Penn were closed due to flooding.
The Holland Tunnel was also experiencing delays this afternoon due to flooding “closing Westbound Route 139 lower level,” according to a tweet from the Holland Tunnel twitter account.
Hoboken suspended all street sweeping and its local HOP service and Police Chief Ken Ferrante asked residents to stay safe and dry.
“If your work day is ending and you need to enter or exit @CityofHoboken, please wait til after 3 p.m. when the heavy rains should be passing,” tweeted Ferrante.
In a second Tweet Ferrante said “Water is receding at some intersections. Please don’t get a false sense of security. Rains continue to fall. @CityofHoboken PATH is closed.”
“It’s the entire region, not just @Cityof Hoboken.” He tweeted. “If it is not an emergency, no one should be driving. Heavy rains thru 3pm. Be safe, be smart.”
He additionally urged residents to also refrain from walking especially “in waters where you can’t see ground, manholes can open in flooding.”
The North Bergen Police Department urged residents to avoid  several areas of town due to flooding via Twitter including Westside Avenue from  32nd Street to 45th and 85th St and 2nd Ave.
“There is a temporary road closure between 51st st and 69th street on Tonnelle Ave due to flooding. Please avoid the area,” they added.
“Ladies and gentlemen please use caution and DO NOT attempt to go through smaller puddles. They may be deeper then you think. USE CAUTION,” warned the Twitter account.
Parts of Jersey City were also reported to be flooded including sections of Route 440, West Side Ave, and Center St.
