At 3:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a one-alarm fire at 71 West 18th Street, They arrived to find a rubbish and car fire that had extended into a residential building at the address. Firefighters stretched two hose lines to extinguish the exterior fire and the fire inside the building.
By around 3:56 a.m., they had the blaze under control, according the release. Ten residents who lived inside were safely evacuated during the incident. Six residents were displaced because of damage to their apartments; the Red Cross is currently assisting them.
