Former Hoboken pastor dies in motor vehicle accident


HOBOKEN– According to a press release issued by St. Francis Church, former Pastor Fr. Michael Guglielmelli, age 81, and his sister Dolores, died in a motor vehicle crash in Freehold, N.J.
“It is with deep regret that the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Hoboken, announces the passing of our beloved former Pastor, Fr. Michael Guglielmelli,” the press release states.
“Fr. Michael served our Parish and the City of Hoboken with love and compassion. He taught us the meaning of caring for those who are less fortunate and how to care for one another in the true spirit of St. Francis. At this time we ask for prayers for the Guglielmelli and Gallina families and for the entire St. Francis Community.”
Guglielmelli, born and raised in Hoboken, he served the St. Francis Community for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2012.
On Tuesday, May 30, Guglielmelli celebrated the 47th anniversary of his year of Ordination.
St. Francis Church, at 308 Jefferson St., will be open until 9 p.m. this evening for those who wish to offer prayer, and tomorrow evening the St. Francis community will gather for a 7:30 p.m. mass.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
