Three water main breaks, one repair

BAYONNE — Three separate water mains broke early Tuesday morning, June 13 in Bayonne, according to city officials. A 10-inch pipe at a building on 54th Street, a 12-inch pipe on First Street, and an 8-inch pipe on West Third Street all broke, leaving about 130 residents without water. Traffic congestion also resulted due to excessive water on the roads.
At 8 a.m. the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management announced that water had been restored to residents affected by the 54th Street main break, but the road would remain closed as long as crews continued to work.
The city’s water company, Suez, is continuing work on the other breaks, according to a spokesperson for the company. Suez is organizing portable water tankers for residents without water in case the breaks are not resolved in a reasonable time frame.
Residents with water may experience issues with water pressure. There is no boil-water advisory in effect.
