The Hudson County Area One Track Meet was held at the North Bruin Stadium in James Braddock Park in North Bergen. Ten members of the Bayonne Recreation Special Olympic Track Team, the Panthers, competed in various Track and Field events to qualify for the New Jersey Special Olympic Summer Games to be held at The College of New Jersey in Ewing from June 9 to 11.
Roger Belanger, Sierra Battle and Debbie LeSane swept all of their events, taking home all gold medals. The results were as follows:
Roger Belanger: 1st place – Mini Javelin, 100 meter walk, 800 meter walk, 4×100 walk relay
Ronald Benitez: 1st place – 100 meter run, 200 meter run; 2nd place – Mini Javelin
Dennis Driscoll: 1st place – 400 meter walk, 4×100 walk relay, Softball throw; 2nd place – 100 meter walk
Ronald Onion: 1st place – 800 meter walk, 4×100 walk relay; 2nd place – 400 meter walk
Michael Walsh: 1st place – 4×100 walk relay; 3rd place – 100 meter walk, 400 meter walk, Softball throw
Sierra Battle: 1st place – 400 meter walk, 800 meter walk, 4×100 walk relay
Samantha Ciemiecki: 2nd Place – 50 meter run, 100 meter run
Wendy DiDomenico: 1st place – 4×100 walk relay; 2nd place – 400 meter walk, Softball throw
Alexis Galgano: 1st place – 4×100 walk relay; 2nd place – 800 meter walk; 3rd place – 400 meter walk
Debbie LeSane: 1st place – 4×100 walk relay, 400 meter walk, Softball throw
The Panthers were accompanied to the meet by their extremely proud coaches, and supporters/fans: Tessie Diaz, Veronica Burns, Jillian Bergalowski, Anastasia Lee, Christopher Burns, and Willie Pacas. We are all very proud of the commitment and dedication everyone has shown during the season. Next stop is the Summer Games.
